WHO IS CHRISTIAN CLAUWERS?

Christian Clauwers is a Belgian documentary photographer, explorer and visual storyteller dedicated to documenting the fragile relationship between humanity and nature. With an academic background in Political Science (University of Antwerp) and Global Management (Antwerp Management School), and more than a decade of experience in expeditions and documentary projects, he focuses on the impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and changing ecosystems, with particular attention to the oceans and polar regions.

His mission is to build bridges between science, policy, industry and society through photography and storytelling. By translating complex scientific and environmental issues into powerful and accessible visual narratives, he aims to bring people closer to our rapidly changing planet.

Christian was appointed by the Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) to document and support the visual communication of the Belgian research vessel RV BELGICA and its scientific missions.

He is an EU Climate Pact Ambassador, Fellow of The Explorers Club in New York and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in London. He has delivered lectures on every continent, published nine books and exhibited his photographic work internationally. Christian is also active within Rotary and has been recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow, an honour associated with support for The Rotary Foundation and its global humanitarian and community programmes. Rotary Antwerpen-Oost supported this exhibition.

By bringing together scientific research, local and Indigenous knowledge, and visual storytelling, he seeks to strengthen awareness and encourage greater engagement in the protection of our planet.
