Itinerary

"An enthusiastic and professional team — a joy to travel with Plancius. From day one I felt welcomed and part of the Inezia family!"

Join this unforgettable nature expedition — from the port of Vlissingen (Zeeland, Netherlands), across the North Sea via Fair Isle (home to countless puffins), to the isolated and rarely visited island of Jan Mayen, nestled in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean. From there, we head further north toward the edge of the Arctic pack ice, with Svalbard as our final destination.

Along the way, expect encounters with tens of thousands of seabirds: Atlantic Puffin, Northern Gannet, Black Guillemot, Little Auk, Razorbill, Great and Arctic Skua, Northern Fulmar, and even the rare Thick-billed Murre. With luck, we’ll also spot marine mammals such as Harbour Porpoise, Bottlenose Dolphin, White-beaked Dolphin, Minke Whale, Fin Whale, Blue Whale, Northern Bottlenose Whale, Humpback — and possibly even the elusive Bowhead Whale.

Upon reaching Svalbard, we’ll seek out iconic high-Arctic species like the King Eider, Ivory Gull, Arctic Fox, Svalbard Reindeer, and Beluga. Special efforts will be made to find Polar Bears and Walruses — especially near the pack ice edge and in the fjords of Spitsbergen. A visit to Poolepynten, one of the key haul-out sites for walruses, is also on the agenda.

This journey is also available as a full package — including post-expedition stays in Svalbard, guided excursions, airport transfers, and a return flight from Longyearbyen to Amsterdam. Contact us for details or a custom offer.

📌 Please note: All routes and landings are subject to change due to weather and ice conditions. If landing at a listed location is not possible, a suitable alternative will always be sought.

⚠️ New regulations: Since 2025, the Norwegian government enforces a minimum distance of 500 meters from polar bears in Norwegian waters between March 1 and June 30. Outside of this period, the minimum is 300 meters. These restrictions do not apply in Greenlandic waters — where we sighted our first polar bear in 2025.
